My school has had some pretty good themes for formal dances. This year for homecoming we had "Night At The Roxbury." We made the gym look like a nightclub and had glowsticks and stuff like that on the tables. We also had 2 chaperones dress up as bouncers. The song was of course "What Is Love" by Hadaway. It was one of the best dances. In the past, we've done "Unleash The Dragon", "Paradise Island", and "Mardi Gras" For winter weekend we want to do "Las Vegas," but we're not allowed because it promotes gambling....riiight. Last year we did "Happy Days" and had a '50s theme. The DJ played a few oldies once in awhile, and we a had hula hoop contest. It was the best dance, but only because of the decorations. The year before we did "Ice Ice Baby." It was a pretty big hit.

-- From AT, , NY

Last year, our prom theme was "Kissed by a Rose." It was gorgeous. The colors were black and red, there were roses everywhere (fake to save on $.) We also had Hershey Kisses scattered on the tables! Get it? "Kissed" by a Rose?!

-- From James, Eisenhower, Lander PA

We are looking for a theme name...our theme is gonna be a tropical/luau theme. we are looking for the perfect title for our prom. we're thinking about something like hawaiian nights, or something with sunset in it...anybody have any ideas??

-- From Adriana, San Bernardino High School, San Bernardino CA

Our theme rocked! It was "I wanna soak up the sun" and the song by Sheryl Crow played all night long! I was voted Beach Bunny (aka prom queen) because of the tropical settings. We had palm trees, and lots of yellow and blue and red colors every where. Beach balls too! Soo cute when you put them together.

-- From Kristy, New Bloomington West High, Normal IL

Last year for prom, we did " A FairyTale Night" it was really pretty because the inside of the dance looked like a castle. This year they are doing "A Night at the Opera". I'm really excited to see what this is going to look like.

-- From Rachael, , IL

every year after senior prom the school has a "post-prom party"every1 goes. anyway last year the theme for the post prom was "monopoly" they had a huge board on the floor, black jack, poker, a climbing wall, a sumo wrestling ring with fat suits to put on, a karioke booth, laser tag, a money pit, a fortune teller, a little beach area, and a ton of food...it was so much fun and the decorations were great

-- From michelle, ridley high school, Philidelphia pa

-- From me , Best Ever High School, usa us

Our prom theme this year was "Take My Breath Away" we had the original song that was sung by Berlin (the original one). It was so romantic.. our background had roses, and we had a arch that we walked through and going down both sets of stairs was a red carpet. the girls met the guys at the bottom of the steps. our main colors were red and cream. it was amazing.

-- From Becca Sanford, McKenzie High School, McKenzie AL

Last year our Junior/Senior prom-thingy theme was Captured in a dream, with the Eiffel Tower and a glow in the dark moon. No date for me, but I had fun with my friends and made some new ones!

-- From Manda, Wilson Academy, East, nc

ok...this isnt prom, but it's the annual drill team ball and it was awsome! the theme was "Romance of the Masquerade"

-- From Julie, KO, Spring TX

We will have a "hollywood" theme, but nothing that actually says "Hollywood." Since this is the first year for a "reception" for the parents, we will have the parents line the red carpet leading into the country club (they have 45 minutes to view their "stars" before they have to leave), our yearbook advisor will be the "paparazzi" snapping pictures of each couple as they walk by (as will the parents, I'm sure). The principles will be the "bouncers" and will take the tickets of those who have the honor (of either being a junior or senior or date of one of the two). As the attendees walk in, they will be greeted in the hallway with a roll of "film" with pictures that they have submitted of themselves and classmates which are enlarged to fit into the frames of the "film"--which our prom committee is making out of thick black roll paper. The restrooms will have stars on each door designating "Star 1" etc. For those essential moments, we will have hairspray, mints, gum, tissue (for those who have a mishap or excited tearfall) also in the restroom. (Gum in the mens room)--Hey they need fresh breath too!! As they walk into the actual "hall," there will be silver and gold stars lining the walls with each of the senior's names (which they may take home with them at the end of the night). The tables will surround the dance floor and will be decorated with their prom favors (a folding pewter photo key ring, a gold trimmed flute, and a photo favor box). When we introduce the prom court, we will have "movie clips" of those girls and guys taken earlier at school. The queen and king will be crowned. And then finally, the prom will be "covered" with video and they can purchase a copy of their prom memories for $5. The photo backdrop is going to be like an entrance to an old time movie theatre with bulbs surrounding the marquee with "Unforgettable" and "Prom 2005" in black letters on an opaque plastic backlit with silver "tinsel" hanging down behind them so it won't "clash" with anyone's dress. The Art class is going to make the backdrop out of a florescent light fixture and we'll hook a dimmer to it so the lights won't be too bright. It will be enclosed in a black plywood box painted black and will be 3-d so it won't look cheesy, but it will look real. We are going ot have round bulbs surrounding the marquee (like the ones you see at movie theatres). All in all, it is an inexpensive way to have an elaborate theme. We're doing this all for around $5k. The tickets aren't even expensive $15/person to cover the prom favors. I'm very impressed with the prom committee and the lack of "drama" among all students. Maybe thats because this is the first year in 4 that the prom isn't being held in the gym. Juniors and Seniors are happy because they get to have a special night away from the school. The parents are happy because they are involved. The teachers and administrators are happy because the prom is local with no hotels/motels around--and we don't have to have a cleaning crew (big bonus). And I'm happy because I haven't been met with any negativity and everyone is so cooperative. Yea! It's going to be a fun and memorable prom for all involved. (Also, it's not too cheesy romantic that the guys like it and can get into it too.) Yes, the Hollywood thing has been done and it has been done and it has been done some more, but I think that our personal touches and inclusion of "our stars" make it original for us and that's all that matters.

-- From Mrs. D, It's a secret!!! shhhhhhh, Secret City KY

Some of the themes that we have had at my school have been..."a walk on the wild side"(jungle), "A big night in a big city"(paris, new york etc.) and "Dancing in the Moonlight" RIght now we are trying to decide on a prom theme, we want something fun instead of the traditional....any suggestions?

-- From Gabby, SHS, Sterling Heights MI

-- From AeCowboy, Bluefield High School, North Wiltshire PE

We just picked our prom theme "Summer Romance" I think it'll be cute. But we went through a lot of ideas which I thought I'd share. "Wine and Roses" was a particular favorite, but we can't do anything dealing with alcohol, they think it promotes drinking. A cruise theme, a walk in the clouds, hollywood, vegas, carribean theme, a circus theme(we have some strange people at my school), mardi gras, one of my friend's school is doing "A Knight to Remember" which is realy cute, with the whole knight in shining armor deal.but yeah, those are some of the one we decided not to use, maybe someone else can

-- From Ashley, Brookville, Lynchburg Va

Our prom theme this year is "Mardigras Madness" its gonna be awesome...we have a bunch of beads to thow off the second floor...and kool lookin masks!

-- From Ashley, Varina High School, Richmond Va

Our theme this year is "For your eyes only" its a James Bond theme. The only colors are black and white with red roses as accents. we also got an Aston Martin to be parked in the lobby for everyone to have their picture taken in. The hotel that is hosting prom is making us an ice sculpture that says 007. And we got our tech theaterdepartment to make us large cut out shillouettes

-- From Ian Miller, Chapel Hill High School, Chapel Hill NC

-- From arianna, bowling green, franklinton la

Last year as a junior we decided to have Mardigras as a them. It was really nice. We used green, purple, and gold as the main colors. I think that was the best theme yet at my school. This year the juniors picked something awful. A Western theme. Most of the juniors and seniors didnt like that idea. So we all decided to write a petition and get it changed. It is in the process now. We are trying to get it to be Hawaiian, and get real hula dancers. I think it would be fun. Oh yea,EVERYONE have a very nice and fun prom this year. Cause Seniors this is our last one. Make it the best!

-- From Ashlee, Indiahoma High School, Lawton Ok

Somthing to remember. Our school colors are red and white but dont have to be that color. Something not to classy but not to oldie. A elegant prom.

-- From Moya Marks, Northside High School, Fort Smith AR

This is my first prom 2005. Our theme is a night under the stars. Everything is blue with a big moon and star on the ground and stars hanging from the ceiling. It's going to be pretty when we start decorating.

-- From Courtney, Ferriday High School, Ferriday La

OKay so i'm in grade 8, not really prom but grad, anyways the theme is Las Vegas! it will totally rock because it's gonna be like a cokctail party and it works because we're all totally dressed for it! Also we came up with Glitz & Glam which would have been fun too with all the sparkles and stuff!

-- From Tori, CCPS, Caledon On

Our theme for our prom this year is Bon Voyage; it is a cute theme because our prom will take place on a boat. The invitations will be passports and we will be able to put i-zone picture stickers in it. After the prom we will hang out on City Island for a little bit playing a game similar to that of the great race, where we will get into groups of four and sent on a scavenger hunt all over the Island. I am so excitied!

-- From Ashlee, New Covenant Christian, Lebanon PA

The theme last year for my school's prom was "A Moment Like This," it was very nice, they decorated it as if they were in a park and they had a fountain, this year the theme is "A Kiss From A Rose" it is going to be so elegant!

-- From Beth, ,

This year the formal (NZ version of Prom) comittee hasn't announced the theme yet, but one we had a few years ago was "A Night in Moulin Rouge" which was pretty cool. We've also done the typical "Winter Wonderland" ones and things like that.

-- From Emily, Wakatipu High,

Our theme for prom this year is *Havannah Nights*. Very hott!

-- From Megan, Bishop O' Dowd, Alameda CA

I am soooo excited about this year's theme! We just voted on it the other day, and it's going to be "The Roarin' 20's!" We'll think of a better name and stuff, but it's gonna be great. We're planning on making the concession area look like a speakeasy bar, and having the lights really dim throughout the place to make it look like a 20's jazz club. We're also going to combine it with a city theme, so there'll be more decorations. We're planning on booking a jazz ensemble to play near the entranceway when people walk in. I can't wait to start PromWorks! We did a good theme last year too, "Pirates of the Caribbean." They built a cave with a treasure chest inside, a dock area, and did murals all of a pirate ship, with lots of exotic plants. It was pretty sweet. And the year before that was "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream," and before that, a Hollywood theme.

-- From Kennis, Kent Roosevelt High School, OH

I hated school dances, and seeing everyone in skanky clothes so... me and my friends planned our own prom... the theme was MODEST IS HOTTEST is was so awesome. The best dance i have ever been too!

-- From Kandee, , Excelsior Springs MO

"nacho" ordinary prom--fiesta My big fat catholic prom- Greek wedding?

-- From Meg, achs, Louisiana

masquerade ball is our theme for 2005 prom. No one really wants it, but our class president doesn't really listen to us. We all wanted a beach party like great day to be alive in paradise or something like that.

-- From Whir, Mariposa High, Mariposa Ca

freshman year our prom was "stairway to heaven" it was pretty cool. the stage was awesome...and so was the entrance way... this year it is "whispering enchantments" which will probably be lovely..creative ppl make creative ideas...good luck and have a safe 2005 prom to you all!!:)

-- From courtney kellner, valders , valders wi

I AM SO SUPER EXCITED ABOUT PROM!!!!! I am on Prom committee, and this year, we are TOTALLY going away from anything that's ever been done. Since our school's only been in existence for 7 years, we still have a lot to work from. We're goin to have a castle thats black with sparkles and flowers at the end so its like ur walking into a flower garden. And we're goin to try to get a real water fountain. Ohhhh, my god, it's going to be SO gorgeous!

-- From Samantha, Xavier HS, Cedar Rapids IA

stairway to heaven with a lot of stars, lots of blue and black. Its my first prom

-- From Frances, DIberville High , Diberville ms

Our theme is "A Night on the Red Carpet". Our school is very small so we combine senior/junior prom together. I know the senior girls are going to out shine us juniors but I got a little trick up my sleeve.

-- From Whitney, Southside Academy, Brooklyn MD
